My thoughts:
This is a compilation of previously published books, numbered 7-12, in the A Wedding in Cornwall series, and, as always, I join the story half way through! This, however, doesn't matter, as I believe each book can be read as a stand-alone. I found it easy to get to know the characters in the individual stories and didn't feel I needed to start with Book 1 to be able to follow the stories - although I have now downloaded a copy of Book 1...A Romance in Cornwall (A Wedding in Cornwall Book 7)
In this story, Julianne and her husband Matt Rose have returned to Cornwall following a spell working in America. In this story, the locals are excited about a novelist who has arrived in the village in search of inspiration for her next novel.
I thought this was a little slow to get going, but enjoyed it nonetheless. I loved the hapless Rosie, who I could imagine windswept and running all over the village in search of the stray dog, and I immediately warmed to Michael the chef.
A Star in Cornwall (A Wedding in Cornwall Book 8)
This tale centres on the Cliff's Edge Players production of Romeo and Juliet, with Julianne standing in as director for an injured Millie. A mysterious stranger arrives in the village and brings star quality to the production.
It took me a time to get into this story, but my interest was piqued by the arrival of the backpacker and the disappearance of money.
A Sewing Circle in Cornwall (A Wedding in Cornwall Book 9)
We meet Matt's ex-fiancee, Petal Price-Parker in this story and watch as she tries to reinsert herself in Matt's affections. The story is set in the run-up to the village fete, with Julianne coordinating this event and learning to quilt in her spare time. Matt and Julianne have a disagreement and events prevent them making time to sit down to work it out.
A lack of communication, and Julianne's self-doubts fuel this story. I didn't like Petal from the minute she was introduced, but she didn't cause as much trouble as I'd anticipated.
A Talent Show in Cornwall (A Wedding in Cornwall Book 10)
To liven things up in the village, Rosie and Lorrie decide to host a talent competition. Julianne agrees to help them and gets Kitty to help too. This is Kitty's first time back in the village since her engagement, and the first of her family finding out about her fiancé, Nathan.
There were several threads to follow in this story. My favourite was Michael finally communicating his feelings to a certain young lady.
An American in Cornwall (A Wedding in Cornwall Book 11)
Julianne is spending a little time with her American friend Amiee in St Petroc, where Aimee is 'shop-sitting' while the owner is on holiday. A local businessman comes up with a scheme to make himself rich, but if it goes ahead, this scheme will devastate the local traders.
Not the best story in the series. I felt the businessman was introduced as a hard-nosed, possibly underhanded player, who would ride roughshod over anyone to get his own way. I was surprised then, that his plans were so easily changed, and he seemed to have a personality change as well, to bring the story to a close.
A Garden in Cornwall: The final heart-warming novella (A Wedding in Cornwall Book 12)
As the title suggests, an old garden has been rediscovered at Penwill Hall. Matt has been employed to resurrect it. There is a mural in the Hall, giving clues to how it once looked, and Julianne, whilst pregnant, is trying to find someone with first-hand knowledge of the garden.
This is the final story in the series, yet it left a few threads still to tie up, leaving the door open to another book perhaps?
Overall, I found this to be an easy-to-read, uplifting, happy-ending series.
