My thoughts:
Whilst part of a series - Bonfires and Hot Chocolate at the Little Duck Pond Café is book number 7 - this book can be read as a standalone, without the reader thinking they've missed too much of the story.The story is told mainly in the first person, from the perspective of Primrose Wilkins, a relative newcomer to Sunnybrook. The story centres on Primrose, who has relocated to the village in search of her maternal grandmother. Primrose's mother was adopted as a baby, and when the woman Primrose called 'Gran' died, she left clues for Primrose to find her biological grandmother.
The café has become the focal point once a week, as everyone gathers to watch Fen appear on a television baking show. Fen is not keen on the celebrity the show brings her.
Ellie is planning for her wedding. Her daughter, Maisie, is still adorable, and totally in love with her puppy, Maisie-Moo.
Two newcomers to Sunnybrook, single-mum Molly and supermarket manager Callum, provide interesting diversions from the main story line.
I am finally warming to Madison, who shows that her heart is in the right place, but tactfulness is skill she is yet to master!
At Robyn's party, Primrose gets to know Callum better, and despite her previous experience, thinks she might be ready for another relationship. Delivery driver, Sam, might also have Primrose in his sights, but she sees him as a flirt.
The search for Primrose's grandmother is not without its own twists and turns. And there's the burning question of whether her grandmother, if she does find her, will be pleased or devastated by the news that she has a granddaughter.
I have so enjoyed catching up with old friends! This is the third book that I've read in The Little Duck Pond Café series, and I have found all of them entertaining and quite delightful.
Bonfires and Hot Chocolate at the Little Duck Pond Café is another genuinely nice, heart-warming story from Green, and I am looking forward to her next book in this series,
A Winter Wedding at the Little Duck Café.
