I bought Quirky Tales to Make Your Day as part of the #DecTheShelves challenge in 2019 and settled down to read it immediately.

My thoughts:
Having very much enjoyed Ms Henthorn's Curmudgeon Avenue series, I decided to read some of her other works. I was drawn to this book by the title, and bought a copy during the 2019 #DecTheShelves event.There's something for everyone in this collection of short stories. The cover gives nothing away, but inside are twenty-four unique, quirky, short stories to digest. Some made me smile; especially Safari Type Trip, which sees a group of people from the Sunny Down Day Centre go to a safari park. The author comically takes us through the stress of organising the trip, and the chaos of managing the trip on the day, with all the various characters' likes, dislikes and behaviours to contend with.
I loved The Washing Machine Diaries and Finding the Right Name, stories written from the perspective of a washing machine and a dog. Both made me smile.
Some tales made me sit up and think - The Witch Hunt, in particular, deals with the subject of mental health from the patient's perspective. It's humorous and quirky as well as thought-provoking.
To Kill Two Birds sees Harold and Edith, two characters who appear in the Curmudgeon Avenue series, in this incarnation, living contentedly in a bungalow in suburbia. The only blight on their happiness being their new neighbours. So... Harold sets about getting rid of them. This is an earlier draft for what becomes The Harold and Edith Adventures and, as with all things 'Harold', is highly comical.
This collection of short stories is a quick read which I enjoyed very much. I love Ms Henthorn's writing style and humour. Her characters are quickly drawn, and immediately feel familiar. Quirky Tales to Make Your Day certainly made mine!
