Children's author Sue Wickstead has just just published a colouring book for children aged 3-8 years, and with Christmas in mind, I bought a couple of copies for the younger children in the family.

This super little colouring book has 17 playbus line drawings to colour in and space for your child to draw a couple of busses for themselves.
There's a few lines about each bus, all simply written for the youngest of readers.
Also, the cheeky little seagull which is a feature in all Ms Wickstead's playbus books, appears in this book asking the children to find him in the colouring pages.
Another winner as far as I'm concerned, so I picked up a few copies for other colouring enthusiasts too.

Double-Decker Playbus Colouring book
This is the latest of my books.
Not a story this time but a colouring book full decorated Playbus. It includes my four bus story pictures (Jay-Jay; Daisy; Gloria; and Sparky) but also other bus projects I have met, as well as a few buses with stories I might write one day?
It certainly makes a different colouring challenge.
Where the colouring book idea began:
Year of the bus.
In 2014, as part of the Transport for London’s celebrations to mark the ‘Year of the Bus’, a sculpture trail was set up around London.
The Bus sculptures were placed all over the city, they were bright, eye catching and certainly different!
(Somehow, I missed the event!)
The sculptures reminded me of Playbus projects, and how they were just as eye-catching!
The Playbus were real buses converted for mobile use. The bright exterior would get the children and adults to come along and find out how the project was different and what it could offer.
Author Visits
When visiting schools as an author I often take a Power-point presentation to show children the many different and colourful buses.
I would use some of the examples to encourage children to design their own bright colourful Playbus.
Bus Journeys continued:
I realized that many children hadn’t travelled on a double decker bus let alone seen a Playbus. The story books certainly draw a lot of interest and questions about the many buses.
Our local bus route has a few decorated single-decker buses too and have told me that it does bring smiles and interesting responses from the many commuters.
There was even once a ‘Postman Pat’ double decker bus that travelled around the town, which was very popular with the children.
Author Bio – Sue Wickstead
Sue once worked with a play charity which operated on a double-decker bus. This led her to write the photographic history book about the project. The 'Bewbush Playbus' book was published in 2012.
Sue then began to write a fictional tale about the bus. 'Jay-Jay the Supersonic Bus', his number plate JJK261 gave him his name and has now been followed by more picture books which all indeed have a bus connection as well as links to her teaching journey.
