Another resounding hit from Ms Houseman! I want to give this entire series 6 stars!
This is the third book in the Ruth Roth series, and I've thoroughly enjoyed reading all of them - And, surprisingly for me, I’ve read them in the right order!I was a little sad when I first picked up MyT(r)oyboy is a Twat because I thought it would be the last in this wonderfully entertaining series. But, great joy! In the last paragraph my hopes have been raised for another book, by the arrival of an unexpected visitor with some surprising news. I'm sure this visitor will be warmly welcomed into Ruth’s family in the end, but it is bound to be another roller-coaster ride getting there!
There is so much I love and admire about Ruth Roth, which again comes out in this book - her observational humour, strong family bonds, strength of character, her ability to survive the craziness around her, and even her potty mouth! I have also loved her vivid descriptions of extreme characters like Hector and neighbours Bin and Bitty, who would be the butt of my jokes too; and I can definitely relate to having an Olive Portnoy in the neighbourhood.
I have really enjoyed this entire series (I might have said that already!) - I love the style of writing; the witty often caustic humour, and its authenticity. I have laughed uproariously, felt both elated and desperately sad for Ruth at times; and with her marriage seemingly in trouble, I’ve willed her to find happiness, in whatever form that would take - not Andy though!
I would wholeheartedly recommend this book and the Ruth Roth series.
