In July I did a promo as part of a blog tour for Secrets in Pelican Crossing but was really disappointed that I didn't have capacity to read and review this book in time for the blog tour. There was just something about the blurb and book cover that caught my eye.
So, here we are three months later and as soon as I spotted the author, Maggie Christensen, had another book in the Pelican Crossing series going on tour, I signed up. Again the blurb and cover 'spoke to me'.
So, to begin, as always, I should like to thank Rachel of Rachel's Random Resources for bringing this novel to my attention and accepting me on the blog tour, and Maggie Christensen for a free digital copy to review.

My thoughts:
I absolutely loved A New Dawn in Pelican Crossing from the very start. I was once again drawn in by the cover and the blurb, with the promise of a mature romance set in a idyllic coastal town in Queensland, Australia, and it certainly delivered!The main characters, Joe Harris and Gill Dickson, are well-drawn and hugely likeable, even though Gill might seem a little aloof at times. Joe is the busy mayor of Pelican Crossing. He had a very happy marriage to Barb, but is now a widower. After she died he got himself a dog, Coco, to ease his loneliness, but had no intention of replacing Barb in his affections or even dating until he crosses paths with Gill. She on the other hand is going through an acrimonious divorce and, expecting all men to be like her estranged husband, has built a wall around her emotions.
A New Dawn in Pelican Crossing is the third book in the Pelican Crossing series, so once again I join a series at the end rather than the beginning! This, however, did not spoil my enjoyment because A New Dawn in Pelican Crossing can easily be read as a standalone as the important information is summaried where needed to give background to an event.
Although this is the first Maggie Christensen novel that I've read, the warmth of the writing made me feel like I was coming home to an old friend.
It was such a pleasure to read A New Dawn in Pelican Crossing that I've now added the two previous books The Restaurant in Pelican Crossing and Secrets in Pelican Crossing to my wish list.
Highly recommended to readers who love a later in life romance.
