Today I'm delighted to be taking part in the blog tour for Maggie Christensen's seventh book in her Pelican Crossing series, A Family for Christmas in Pelican Crossing, organised by Rachel of Rachel's Random Resources.
As always, I begin by thanking Rachel for the invitation to join the tour and Maggie Christensen for a free digital copy of her book to review.

A Family for Christmas in Pelican Crossing is Lou Chalmers story. Lou owns and runs the book store Books and Coffee while the cafe side is managed by Ron and Denny. Lou's life has revolved around her store as, following an estrangement from her sister and brother-in-law over forty years earlier, she has sworn off romance and remained single. Approaching 65 years of age, she is feeling the miss of her sister and looking at her friends relationships, their families and their grandchildren, is regretting the lack of family in her own life.
Lou's masseuse, Katrina, has persuaded her widower father Blair Stevens to move from Tasmania to Pelican Crossing. He is sad to leave all that is familiar behind and is apprehensive about whether he is doing the right thing, relocating to place he does not know. He becomes aquainted with several characters that I have previous enjoyed reading about, and having seen Lou out and about, he is, in time, introduced to her. What begins as a tentative friendship eventually becomes something much stronger as he helps her to trace her sister.
I am heavily invested in this series. I love the setting, the characters and the storylines. The blurb and the covers entice me to read them, and these feel-good, second-time-around romances speak to me on my level. Once again I was captivated by the warmth of the writing and the generous welcome into this wonderfully supportive community.
A number of the characters who have featured in previous stories appear here in cameo adding to the feel of a small, close-knit community. I still love old Agnes who shows up to offer sage advice to all parties. She is a mysterous individual who cares for the local pelican population, and I would love to know more of her backstory.
A Family for Christmas in Pelican Crossing is another happy-ending story which I thoroughly enjoyed and would unreservedly recommend to readers of romantic novels, especially those who love a later-in-life or second chance romance.

 After a career in education, Maggie Christensen began writing contemporary women’s fiction portraying mature women facing life-changing situations, and historical fiction set in her native Scotland. Her travels inspire her writing, be it her trips to visit family in Scotland, in Oregon, USA or her home on Queensland’s beautiful Sunshine Coast. Maggie writes of mature heroines coming to terms with changes in their lives and the heroes worthy of them. Maggie has been called the queen of mature age fiction and her writing has been described by one reviewer as like a nice warm cup of tea. It is warm, nourishing, comforting and embracing. From the small town in Scotland where she grew up, Maggie was lured to Australia by the call to ‘Come and teach in the sun’. Once there, she worked as a primary school teacher, university lecturer and in educational management. Now living with her husband of over thirty years on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, she loves walking on the deserted beach in the early mornings and having coffee by the river on weekends. Her days are spent surrounded by books, either reading or writing them – her idea of heaven! |
