Having recently thoroughly enjoyed reading A New Dawn in Pelican Crossing, I jumped at the chance to read the next story in this enchanting series.

Having recently read and thoroughly enjoyed A New Dawn in Pelican Crossing I was extremely excited to be given a copy of A Christmas Surprise in Pelican Crossing, the fourth book in the Pelican Crossing series. I have already purchased Book #1 The Restaurant in Pelican Crossing but Book #2 Secrets in Pelican Crossing still waits on my wish list... Christmas is coming though...This story focuses on Rachel Mason, a widow of some years who has brought up her family and turned the family home into a B&B to be able to keep it. She is also a hands-on grandparent to four-year-old twins Indie and Gemma and toddler Emily. Rachel is an extremely likeable and strong woman who is currently planning a family Christmas and is delighted with the news that her son who lives overseas will be bringing a surprise with him.
When she unexpectedly crosses paths with Luke Findlay, who she knew and crushed on in her younger days, but who left Pelican Crossing for the big city and hasn't been back in over forty years, Rachel dares to hope for a different future.
I was once again charmed by the cover and blurb, and quickly became absorbed into the story, as though I were actually there in Pelican Crossing. The writing is warm, as are the characters, and the setting completely drew me in - Pelican Crossing sounds like an idyllic place to live. My favourite secondary character would have to be old Agnes, a sage and kindly soul of indeterminate age who cares for sick pelicans.
Apart from the later-in-life romance in this story, there is a bit of crime solving and the 'surprise' turns out to be much more than Rachel had envisaged. However, Rachel takes it all on board and A Christmas Surprise in Pelican Crossing ends happily, although with a few questions I'd still like answered, something I hope will be addressed in the next book in this series.
Another highly recommended read for readers who love a later in life romance.
