20 Books of Summer Challenge: The Result So the challenge has ended, and I have successfully read, reviewed, and removed 19 books from my TBR pile. I was 80% of the way through book 20, when the challenge ended, so overall I call that a 'Win'! I have to admit, though, to adding 30 books over the summer, so perhaps completing the challenge isn't going to help me get my pile down... This month I intend to be strong and not add any more. I can say that with a fair amount of confidence because October's Book Club read has already been announced and I've bought that already! OK. Goodreads shows my #20BooksOfSummer completed reads as:
I am almost finished Jean Fullerton'The Rector's Daughter and the review for that will be posted on my blog on 8/11/19. However, this wasn't the original list. I've had to swap out titles to accommodate Book Club and Blog Tour reads that I had to read within certain time scales. What happened to those titles, you ask? There are 9 books which got put back in the pile. They are:
I now plan to read these by the end of March 2020, starting with The Holiday Swap. That might sound like a generous time in which to complete this task, but I've a full bookshelf up to the end of the year as well.
And finally, a big thank you to @Cathy746Books for setting the challenge. It motivated me to read some of those books I've had a while, and never quite get around to! Looking forward to doing this again next year! |

20 Books of Summer Challenge
In the final week of this challenge, I am running close to the wire. In order to achieve my 20 books target and stay on top of my blog tour commitments, I have had to swap out another couple of books. Even now, this is no guarantee of actually achieving my 20 books target on 3rd September. But we live in hope, and whatever the outcome, I will have read and reviewed 20 books from my pile before the middle of next week. I don't want to talk about the new books I've added to my TBR, but let's just say that I have significantly more now than I did at the start of this challenge! So, my progress to-date: I'm keeping a tally on Goodreads, and it now says I've read 18 books:
Ebooks
Thank you Cathy for setting this challenge. It definitely made me focus on reading rather than collecting books! Want to see what this challenge is all about? Read Cathy’s blog post for more details. |

20 Books of Summer Challenge
As this challenge nears its close, I've done a quick tally, and I'm pleased with what I've achieved. I don't think that without the challenge to motivate me, I would have read as many books as I have. And I probably would have just kept adding more to my TBR list. Since my last update, I have finished our Book Club read, Louise Candlish's Our House, which had me hooked from page 1. I snuck in another Rich Amooi short story, and Sue Wickstead's Daisy Daydream Bus Rhymes and Jokes (although I'm not going to count this for the challenge) before picking up A Ration Book Childhood. According to Goodreads, I've now read 14 books:
Ebooks
I'm almost finished A Ration Book Childhood, for which I need to write a review for publication on my blog on 5th October. 6 books might be a step too far, but even if I can get 15 titles read, I'd consider that a win! 20 Books of Summer Challenge
It's two weeks since my last update on this challenge, and I feel like I'm really struggling now. I was away on holiday last week, and only managed to get one book read. But on the plus side, I didn't add any more books to my TBR list. Let's see if I can manage not to add any more this week! I have just started Louise Candlish's Our House. This is my Book Club read, so I need to have this read by next week for our meeting. But that shouldn't be too difficult as it's got me intrigued already! According to Goodreads, I've now read 12 books:
Ebooks
Books
As I said, I'm just starting Our House, and I'll follow that with A Ration Book Childhood, for which I need to write a review for 5th October. 8 books should be manageable, but even if I can get 15 titles read, I'd consider that a win! 20 Books of Summer Challenge
So, it's just over two weeks since my last update on this challenge, and I feel like I've stalled. I took longer to read The Christmas Sisters than I expected, and I seem to have lost my momentum. And yes, I've added more books to my TBR list. After our Book Club meeting earlier this month, I added Our House by Louise Candlish, downloaded several eBooks, and signed up for a few more blog tours. I promise to try harder this month... According to Goodreads, the books I've read are:
I need to revisit my list, and have decided to scrap all the books on my Netgalley list, and changed out a few on my Ebooks list to accommodate my latest commitments: Ebooks
Books
I'm just starting Feed thy Enemy for a review on 2nd September, and I'll follow that with our Book Club read, Our House, then back to blog tours with A Ration Book Childhood for a review on 5th October. I don't really feel under pressure to read 20 books because I can reduce that number, and still claim success. It would just be nice though, to see 20 titles come off my TBR pile. Why not join in the fun, and see if you can reduce your TBR list this summer? Read Cathy’s blog post for more details. |

20 Books of Summer Challenge
I'll have to admit to having no will-power when it comes to books. I have added 19 ebooks to by TBR list, and agreed to do a couple of blog tours, although only one of these falls within the challenge dates. I'll amend my list later. Last week, two children's storybooks arrived in the post, and after looking at them for a few moments, I decided to read and review both immediately, even though the blog tours for these books don't begin until the end of September. I'm not going to add them to my 20BooksOfSummer list as that feels like cheating. Checking my list, according to Goodreads, I find I have now read eight books - that's not great progress, considering I've had over two weeks to read two books! The books I've read are:
That means my revised list is: My Netgalley shelf:
Ebooks
I've started reading The Christmas Sisters, and plan on working through the other titles on my Netgalley shelf after that. There's still time to join in the fun, and see if you can reduce your TBR list this summer. Read Cathy’s blog post for more details. |

20 Books of Summer Challenge
As previously predicted, I have yet another change to my 20 books. At my first ever Book Club meeting last week, we were asked to read Falling by Elizabeth Jane Howard for our next meeting in July. This is quite a large book, and not the sort of book I would normally choose for myself. The challenge now is, which book to set aside to accommodate it. After much debate I've chosen David P Permutter's 13 - The 70's - A True Story. A quick count-up. Today, I have 390 eBooks and 28 paperbacks on my TBR list, so it has increased slightly. Hardly a surprise, as I gather more titles than I can read each week. I am charting my progress on Goodreads, and am delighted to find I have read 6 books. Not all of them have been reviewed on my blog yet. Reviews for Blog Tours have to be published on specific dates, and I'm waiting on additional material for another before posting. The books I've read are:
That means my revised list is: Arranged Blog Tours
Ebooks
I've started Falling and after that I'm going to read Bridge to Eternity before working through my Netgalley shelf. There's still time to join in the fun, and see if you can reduce your TBR list this summer. Read Cathy’s blog post for more details. |

Update 1 #20BooksOfSummer Challenge

|
20 Books of Summer Challenge The #20BooksOfSummer challenge begins next Monday, 3rd June, and this is just a quick update on my preparations so far. As expected my TBR pile has crept up. Not as much as I'd have expected, but that's probably due to finding that I had a couple of duplicate files amongst my ebooks, and being able to delete two 'samples'. I have, however, acquired 14 new ebooks this week, and today I learned that I've won another paperback in a raffle! |
